Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How long does a job take, on average?
A: After architectural planning and planning permission has been granted, a job is usually completed in between 6-12 weeks. Every job is individual, and completion time depends on many factors, such as number of rooms, number of dormers, type of rooms, and facilities required (i.e. Bathrooms). A better estimate of completion time can be gauged upon initial inspection.

Q: How much does the average job cost?
A: There really is no average. Each job depends on the materials used, as well as the factors mentioned above. A hardwood staircase and a softwood staircase could vary in price by up to 70%.

Q: Do you offer services such as plumbing and electrical installation?
A: The price quoted will include all provisions, including electrical and plumbing. A decoration service can be provided if required, but is not inclusive of the price quoted, unless requested.

Q: What is the common order of events?
A: Firstly, contact one of our team members, who will visit to inspect the property. They can go over any specific questions you may have. Inspection is free, with no obligation to buy.

Q: We will then consider the implication of planning laws, and weather planning permission is required; and if so, apply for permission to build.
A: The next stage is for us to provide a written quote. We do not supply estimates. This stage will require input from yourself, including specifying materials, and designs. Free advice is given on design factors from a qualified professional carpenter.

Q: On acceptance of our quote, we would submit the designs to an architect to acquire full specification drawings. This service is required, and hence included in the quote.
A: We would then agree a commencement date, to which construction will commence.

Q: Can you help me with design?
A: Our carpentry team can give general advice on any plans you may have, including feasibility advice, however if full design is required, an architect can be provided.

Q: Will I need planning permission?
A: Again, there is no set answer, but factors affecting planning permission include, but are not limited to:

  • Whether the property overlooks a public footpath
  • Area or size of loft
  • Location of building

Even if planning permission is not required, all work is carried out to building regulations.

Q: Have you got recommendations? Would it be possible to view previous work?
A: Recommendations can be provided, and viewing of completed work can also be arranged.

Q: Is all work fully guaranteed?
A: All work is fully guaranteed.
